![]() ![]() Inspired by a legend Poe had heard while he was serving with the army in Boston. ![]() He then chains the man to the walls and builds a wall to hide the man from any searchers. Edgar Allen Poe's The Cask of Amontadillo is a story of revenge. A man named Montresor lures an old friend who unknowingly wronged him to sample his rare wine selection, located deep beneath his villa in old catecombs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Really, this entire book is an homage to The Enchanted Castle. What is half of twice a talking cat? Or to be half-again twice not-here? And how do you double your most heartfelt wish, the one you care about so much that it has to be perfect? My favorite part of this book was Eager fanboying about Edith Nesbit. Wishing for two times some things is a cinch, but other doubled wishes only cause twice as much trouble. It turns out the coin grants wishes-but only by half, so that you must wish for twice as much as you want. Jane finds the coin, and because she and her siblings are having the worst, most dreadfully boring summer ever, she idly wishes something exciting would happen. It all begins with a strange coin on a sun-warmed sidewalk. Despite Milton’s own high estimate of his poem’s accomplishment, Paradise Regained has always been the least loved of Milton’s major poems, steadily overshadowed by Paradise Lost and esteemed less than Samson Agonistes and even Comus or Lycidas. ![]() “This slim volume makes a large contribution to the ongoing resuscitation of Paradise Regained. ![]() ![]() ![]() My characters are a blend of everything I observe in the world, but they are not based on any one person I know.
